Weight loss and radiant skin, these are some of the benefits the acai berry promotes. Here’s why it deserves a spot in your grocery basket.
Acai, pronounced ah-sah-ee, is a dark purple berry native to the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil. Familiar to health enthusiasts, the acai berry is said to have more vitamins and minerals than other fruits.
Benefits of acai berry
Acai is a food that all women should take note of. Called “beauty berry” in Brazil, it used to enhance physical appearance. It aids in weight loss, promotes healthy skin and has a high level of antioxidants like anthocyanins, that fight free radicals and slow down the ageing process. In fact, many beauty products contain acai oil, a great natural substitute to chemical-based beauty products.
The acai berry also makes people feel good on the inside. It lowers blood cholesterol, relieves constipation, boosts metabolism, and fights cancer and heart disease.
Today, acai is commonly used in juices and smoothies. Some cafes sell acai berry bowls, where the berry is blended and topped with granola and fruits.

As society becomes increasingly health conscious, the acai berry is set to become the next big thing in the food industry. Although it is not usually stocked in Singapore stores, you can easily find acai supplements and juices online. Just be careful of scams — cheap products often contain small amounts of pure acai as the high quality pulp is expensive.
